The cool yogurt dip helps to simmer down the zestiness from the spice blend, and is super simple to make. Plus the fries and the dip are both customizable to whatever flavors you like, making it versatile and accommodating for any dietary restriction or flavor preference.

Snackable fries and dip that are naturally gluten-free, dairy-free, and with a few basic modifications to the spice blend, they are also compliant with the Autoimmune Protocol.

Use them as a side dish, a snack or as a Paleo or AIP capsule meal component. I love these with burgers, Instant Pot meatloaf, with a fried egg on top (an AIP reintroduction) or all on their own when the “hangries” hit for a simple snack. You can totally make a double batch (just get you another large sheet pan) to get ahead and plan out your week.

I’ve had luck getting these crisped on both the conventional setting and with the convection setting in my oven. I actually had NO idea when we bought our first home at the end of 2019 that our kitchen came equipped with a convection setting! (Can you imagine what a nice surprise that was? Talk about SQUEEE!!)

Though you do not need a convection setting to get these edges slightly crisped and golden brown for munching away. If you do choose to go convection, you will wish to lower the heat by about 10 degrees and watch the cooking time – as they will burn fast due to the natural sugars in sweet potatoes.

Spicy Fries with Ranch (Paleo, AIP, Whole30)

These delicious, crispy sweet potato Spicy Fries with Ranch are Paleo & Whole30 compliant. AIP option, gluten free & dairy free.

Ingredients

FRIES

  • 2 large sweet potatoes scrubbed well, skin-on, sliced into medium-sized wedges
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (use tallow for Animal-Based)

SPICE BLEND

  • 1 tsp ground cumin (for AIP & Animal-Based, omit)
  • 1 tsp curry powder (for AIP, sub turmeric – omit for Animal-Based)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (for AIP, sub ½ tsp ground smoked tea – omit for Animal-Based)
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (for AIP, sub 1 tsp ginger powder – omit for Animal-Based)
  • ½ tsp ground Ceylon cinnamon

RANCH DIP

  • 1 cup plain coconut yogurt, additive-free (for coconut-free, sub mashed avocado)
  • 2 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp fresh dill, minced
  • 3 tbsp fresh parsley, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (omit for Animal-Based)
  • 1 ½ tsp onion powder (omit for Animal-Based)
  • Himalayan salt, to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F and line a large, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, toss the sweet potatoes with the olive oil and toss to coat.
  • In a small bowl, combine the SPICE BLEND. Sprinkle spice mixture over the sweet potato wedges and toss until all wedges are lightly coated.
  • Arrange the sweet potato wedges on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. For crispier wedges, do not overcrowd and also do not salt them until they are done roasting.
  • Place baking sheet in preheated oven and roast until the sweet potatoes are golden brown and crispy around the edges, around 30-35 minutes. Flip once hallway through the cooking process to brown both sides.
  • While the sweet potatoes are roasting, mix the RANCH DIP ingredients together in a small bowl, then place in the refrigerator to chill.
  • Once browned, remove the sweet potato wedges from the oven and sprinkle generously with salt. Let cool slightly before serving with the herbed coconut yogurt dip. Enjoy!

Notes

For even more flavor, mix up the ranch dip the night before to give the flavors more time to combine and develop.
