Paleo AIP Apple Snacks for Fall

Here are 3 Paleo AIP Apple Snacks for Fall that are tasty, easy to make, and full of health benefits for you and your tribe!

When the cooler weather starts to bluster ‘round the corner, and the leaves on trees begin to change colors, you know it’s the perfect time to make some seasonal and delicious Paleo AIP Apple Snacks for Fall.

It is possible to make fun autumn snacks without having to load up on sugar, preservatives, or other unhealthy ingredients. The following recipes are anti-inflammatory, naturally gluten-free, and super easy to prepare for the coming festive season!

Three simple to make Paleo AIP Apple Snacks for Fall:

Baked Spiced Apple Chips

While it might seem like chips aren’t a healthy option, when prepared the AIP way they actually can be! These make a great treat that encourages adults and kids alike to eat their fruit in a fun and festive way.

Instead of just coating the apples in cane sugar (or buying them preserved in corn-based citric acid or sulfites – like many packaged brands tend to do), consider instead this deliciously simple and clean-eating method to preapre apple chips:

1) Heat your oven to 200 F.

2) Evenly slice 2 apples of your choice very thinly (carefully using a mandolin helps!) to 1/16-inch thick.

3) Add apples to a large sheet pan lined with a piece of parchment or a silicone mat. Keep slices in a single layer, without overlapping.

4) Lightly sprinkle the top with a cinnamon, ground clove, and mace (or nutmeg if you have reintroduced it on the AIP). You can even add a sprinkle of luxurious maple sugar here if you like!

5) Bake 200ºF for 1 hour, then flip them over and bake about 1 hour more or until they are crisp around the edges and are mostly dry to the touch. If not dry to the touch or crispy, continue baking them in 15-minute increments until done.

6) Cool completely, then store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze for longer storage.

You can also do this instead in a traditional dehydrator (this is the one I have) or using the Instant Pot’s new air fryer lid and complementary dehydrator rack for the Instant Pot.

Slow-Cooker Pear-Applesauce

Another way to use apples in your Paleo AIP Apple Snacks for Fall is to make a batch of this yummy compote that is delicious warm or chilled. Any variety of apple or pears will do, and you don’t even have to peel them.

Though if you prefer a lighter-colored, smoother sauce (like pictured) you’ll definitely want to peel your fruits first. You can season your pear-applesauce with fall flavors, too – like cinnamon, ginger, and clove – and make a yummy gingerbread flavored sauce! Here’s how to make for some easy fall-themed cookery:

1) Peel, core, and roughly chop 4 large apples and 4 large pears of your choice.

2) Add the chopped fruit, the juice of ½ a lemon, and spices of your choice to your slow cooker.

3) Cook on low heat for 4 hours. Carefully add the mixture to a blender (or use an immersion blender in the crock) and puree until smooth, or your desired consistency.

4) Cool completely, then store in airtight containers in the fridge for up to 7 days or freeze for longer storage.

You can also make this recipe in a pressure cooker or Instant Pot, just be sure to add 1 cup of water along with the other ingredients. Cook on high for 8 minutes, release the pressure, then blend as desired.

Top your Pear-Applesauce with some fresh sliced fruit, orange zest, and freshly chopped mint to serve if desired!

Beet Apple Zinger Juice

Have you been leery of beets but know that you’d love to incorporate these iron-rich, ruby-red, rooty beauties into your Paleo AIP diet, especially with their blood-purifying benefits?

This sneaky juice uses sweet-tart apples, spicy ginger, sweet carrots, and acidic lemon juice to disguise the beet flavor a bit. What a perfect way to start introducing beets to your palate with the help of other flavors that are familiar to you!

To make 2 servings of juice, simply add these ingredients to a juicer:

  • 4 large green apples, cored and roughly chopped
  • 1 large beet, roughly chopped
  • 2 inches fresh ginger, roughly chopped
  • 2 large carrots

Then once the juice is made, stir in the juice of 1 large lemon. Chill or serve over ice and enjoy!

If you don’t have a juicer, not to worry! You can simply chop up the beet, apple, carrot, and ginger, then blend it with the lemon juice in a blender. Allow the blended mixture to settle for a bit, then pour the liquid and pulp through a nut milk bag inside of a strainer over a large mixing bowl.

For a no-waste approach, you can even add some sea salt and cinnamon to the leftover squeezed pulp, then dehydrate it in the oven (similar to the apple chips above) or in your dehydrator for some unique veggie-fruit leather snacks!
